In October 2023, Taylor Swift accomplished a feat no other musician had before: she became a billionaire primarily off of earnings from her music and performances. Three months later, Forbes named television tycoon Dick Wolf a billionaire, too, thanks to his estimated $1.9 billion (pretax) career earnings from producing shows like Law & Order and FBI.

The two entertainers bring even more star power to the Forbes World’s Billionaires list, which has seen an explosion in celebrity billionaires in recent years. Ten of the 14 A-listers on the ranking have become billionaires in the past four years, spurred by entertainers capitalizing on their brand and fame.

Most on this list have made their billions from their own entrepreneurship and ventures outside of their claim to fame. Pop star Rihanna, for example, built her fortune mainly from her stake in two billion-dollar companies, makeup brand Fenty Beauty, a joint venture with luxury giant LVMH, and lingerie maker Savage X Fenty. Jay-Z became hip hop's first billionaire thanks to two alcohol companies, D’Usse Cognac and Armand de Brignac Champagne. He sold a 50% stake in the latter to LVMH, and he also has stakes in Uber and Block, among other investments. Michael Jordan earned less than $100 million from his basketball career, but pocketed big bucks from Nike. Jordan had his biggest score in August, when he sold his majority stake in the Charlotte Hornets at a sky-high $3 billion valuation.

Read the full story on Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/devinseanmartin/2024/04/02/the-worlds-celebrity-billionaires-2024-taylor-swift-kim-kardashian-oprah/?sh=32680c87276b

Subscribe to FORBES: https://www.youtube.com/user/Forbes?sub_confirmation=1

Fuel your success with Forbes. A new study has found parents are deeply concerned about their child’s academic and character development before they turn 5 years old.

The poll of 2,000 parents of children ages five and younger found 59% are concerned about their children’s academic and character development, citing concerns about whether their children will learn to play fairly and cooperate with others (50%), communicate well with others (49%) and be able to appropriately express themselves (47%).

Parents listed several challenges they face to support their children’s development, including creating a routine (38%), teaching positive behaviors (30%), planning activities (25%), providing a consistent environment (23%) and building early literacy and math skills (23%).

Commissioned by Primrose Schools and conducted by OnePoll, the study revealed a large majority (98%) of parents understand the importance the first five years of life play in a child’s development and future successes.

According to results, parents shared the earliest ages they believed their children could learn important skills and concepts.

For example, some parents believe their children should be able to interact with peers, learn language skills and learn social skills by age two.

By age three, parents believe their children should be able to start benefitting from formal learning activities and grasp academic concepts. Over half of parents surveyed (55%) said their concerns about their children’s development are worrisome enough to keep them up at night.

“In the first five years of a child’s life, parents have an opportunity to maximize the power and potential of this critical time,” said Dr. Amy Jackson, chief early learning strategy officer at Primrose Schools. “It’s clear that parents want their children to learn these important academic and character development skills while their brains are most receptive to learning, but we know many worry about finding the right approach.”

When it comes to support systems for parents, 82% of parents consider preschools to be a part of their support systems — alongside immediate family (88%), extended family (37%) and friends (33%).

When looking at preschools, parents said they look for a place that offers a safe place where their child can feel like they belong (28%), qualified teachers invested in their child’s development (24%) and kindergarten readiness (15%).

When parents are not consulting their support system, 73% will at least occasionally consult the internet for parenting advice, instead. However, 43% said they feel “overwhelmed” by what they find online.

“Support systems are important for new parents, especially during their child’s first five years of life,” continued Dr. Jackson. “The experiences and connections children have in these early years will shape their academic, physical and social-emotional development — ultimately forming their foundation for learning and who they become.”

What if you want a high-quality lightweight, modern carbon road bike but you prefer rim brakes, a mechanical groupset and don’t want balloon tyres for so called ‘all road’ riding?

In this video I’m going to show that that - despite the best efforts of the industry - bikes like this do still exist. I’ve found the ultimate modern bike for the retrogrouch. The Racer Rosa is an example of a bike which proves that you can still buy a top end carbon road bike with rim brakes andis compatible with mechanical gears.

Parents across Wales are calling for a mirroring of a new childcare scheme that's being rolled out in England. Working parents in England can now get 15 hours per week of free childcare for two year olds from April 2024, which will be extended to thirty hours weekly for all under fives by September of 2025. But childcare for Wales is a devolved issue so the rules are slightly different.

Currently, there are two Welsh government schemes in place. The childcare offer means parents of children aged three and four can get 30 free hours per week for 48 weeks in the year, provided they meet certain criteria like earning less than £100,000 per year, or working at least 16 hours a week. And then, the Flying Start provides 12.5 hours per week to some two-year-olds living in more deprived areas of the country.

At the start of the year, Vaughan Gething promised to expand free childcare in Wales if he was elected. The first minister's promise followed a petition calling for the English scheme to be matched in Wales. But the scheme has faced backlash amid claims there won't be enough spaces for all who apply.
