Nearly half of the UK’s pets now have their own dedicated room where they can relax in peace and store their belongings, research has revealed.

A poll, of 2,000 cat and dog owners, found 48 per cent have a reserved room for their pets or a space in the garden.

Just over half (55 per cent) want them to have their own 'chill out' area, while 34 per cent want to ensure maximum comfort.

And 30 per cent want all their possessions kept in one place.

But for 18 per cent, its sole purpose is so their stuff doesn’t take up space in the rest of the home.

It also emerged 46 per cent of pet owners have designed their home around their pet, although 21 per cent admitted they are unlikely to buy items to appease their furry friend that don’t match their interior style.

The study was commissioned by Homesense - part of the TK Maxx family - which has partnered with Kelly Brook, to launch a pet and interiors content series ‘Barkitectural Digest’.

In the style of a high-end home interior magazine, Kelly and her beloved pup, Teddy, grace the pages in a luxury home decked out with more affordable homeware and pet products to spread inspiration for other pet owners.

Kelly Brook said: “I adore Teddy. He’s family and a big part of my life he is, so it’s no surprise that there are elements in my home designed around him.

“It turns out I’m not the only one, and I am thrilled to help inspire others to design their perfect home and pet haven.”

The study also found of those who have designed their home around their pet, top changes included moving delicate things higher up (29 per cent), adding a cat flap (21 per cent) and installing a garden fence (20 per cent).

Others have replaced carpets with hard floors (16 per cent) or bought scratch proof furniture (11 per cent), while nine per cent have even chosen dark furnishings to disguise pet hair.

Nearly one in five (17 per cent) have installed baby gates to stop wandering cats and dogs and 19 per cent have covered up pet inflicted damage with blankets.

However, 38 per cent don’t believe there is enough inspiration available to help stylishly decorate their home with their pet in mind.

And 75 per cent struggle to find pet products that are good quality and reasonably priced.

The research, carried out via OnePoll, found owning an animal has been more expensive than expected for 41 per cent, with insurance and food among the costs that surprised them most.

While 15 per cent claim they spend more on their cat or dog than they do on their children, holidays and their car, with the average owner spending £708 on their furry friend a year.

As a result, 59 per cent have had to compromise on pet products due to their cost - especially on food, toys and beds.

A Homesense spokesperson added: “We’re a nation of animal lovers, and we believe you should never have to compromise when it comes to your pets.\

A FORMER race car driver has built a one-of-a-kind vehicle never before seen on the roads - a 1952 Ford pick-up truck that drives BACKWARDS. Davey Hamilton, from Indianapolis, was struggling to find the truck of his dreams. But having been inspired by his friend in Maine, another former driver who owned a truck, Davey decided to take things one step further. But to build his backwards truck, Davey had to first find a truck with a big back window that could act as a windscreen. Davey told R.Rides: “A lot of the older trucks have really small back windows; they don’t have the wide ones. I couldn’t find a truck with a big back window. I happened to find this truck three miles from my father’s house and knew I had to get it.” The truck had its original body, frames and pedals. “We had put the lights on obviously, going the wrong direction. I didn't know what to do for bed cover. So, we figured to keep the rustic look.” Davey had to do a lot of work for the truck to work just right. “We had to cut a hole between the bed of the truck and the cab of the truck for your feet to go in. And so that had to be sealed up so there's no water getting inside the truck.” With the seats in and doors on, the truck still had a little to go before making its road debut. The windshield wipers got installed to make it safe, so the truck had everything that’s required to get going. “It looks like it's supposed to go forward. And so, it took some time and to get everything levelled out and make sure that was mounted properly.” And Davey loves his creation for lots of reasons. “Number one, it’s an attention getter. Number two, it's definitely a fan favourite, number three, it was a lot of work. There's new people that see it every time we take it out and it's definitely a crowd getter.”

A beloved grandma who had spent 20 years searching for the grave of her late father screamed in shock when her granddaughter informed her that she had found the site and that they were on their way to visit him. Usillia Wright, from Tampa, Florida, is extremely close to her grandmother, Zina, who has been her primary caregiver since Zina was the one to raise Usillia. This close relationship meant Usillia had heard about her grandmother's troubles locating her father's grave. Zina is legally deaf, Usillia said, and so gets discouraged when calling people or trying to speak to them face-to-face. This meant that she had struggled to find her father's grave during the two decades she had been searching, as her condition made asking people for information difficult. Each year, Zina does something to remember her late parents on their birthdays, but after paying a visit to her mom's grave, Zina is sad about not being able to do the same thing for her father, Willie Knight Sr. A conversation about this sadness prompted Usillia to repeatedly call every cemetery in Belle Glade and the surrounding cities for two weeks. Eventually, a staff member returned to Usillia and informed her that she had located the grave she was looking for. Usillia planned to visit the grave first to clean it up and decorate it, but one morning, having dropped her daughter off at school, Usillia started talking to her grandma, who was traveling in the car with her. Zina mentioned how much she missed her father, so the moment felt right, Usillia said, to tell her there and then. When Usillia said, \
