Description: This is Part 1 of a summary of the crystal structures presented in Synthesis and Structural Characterisation of Selective Non-Carbohydrate-Based Inhibitors of Bacterial Sialidases - (Brear - 2012 - ChemBioChem ). In this paper CHES was initially identified as a serendipitous binding fragment in the active site of NanB. CHES was fragmented down to the minimum binding unit taurine which was then further optimised.
