On the day of Shitalashtami, the stove is not lit in the house. All the food is prepared a day in advance. On this day the stove is not lit in the house, fresh food is eaten from the next morning. In Bihar, there is a tradition of eating curry and rice prepared a day before Shitalashtami. Rice is kept in water a day before the festival and the next day it is filtered and taken as Prasad.
