Bahawalpur State boasts a rich historical tapestry, having been home to various ancient societies. In recent history, the Bahawalpur region was part of the Multan province of the Mughal Empire. Within its borders, there exist traces of the Indus Valley civilization, with ancient Buddhist sites like the nearby Patan minara adding to its historical significance.<br/>Renowned British archaeologist Sir Alexander Cunningham identified the Bahawalpur region as the ancient home of the Yaudheya kingdoms, a historical link to the Mahābhārata.<br/><br/>Before the establishment of Bahawalpur, the Cholistan region’s major urban center was Uch Sharif. Uch Sharif served as a regional metropolitan hub from the 12th to the 17th centuries and is celebrated for its collection of historic shrines dedicated to Muslim mystics from the 12th to the 15th centuries.
